How Alcohol Negatively Impacts Your Ability to Have a Child
If you want to have a baby but you are a person who enjoys drinking alcohol, you owe it to your future child and your spouse to stop drinking even before you have conceived.
When you drink alcohol and you have a baby growing inside of you, the alcohol quickly reaches the developing fetus by way of the placenta. The baby is unable to process the alcohol that enters its system at as quick a rate as the mother can. For this reason, the baby is exposed to toxic levels of alcohol for a longer period of time. This can serve to adversely affect the development of the baby.
Concern for Mothers-to-be
It can never be emphasized enough, women who are trying to get pregnant or those who are already pregnant should avoid drinking all types of alcohol. Experts do not really know for sure how much your chances of conceiving are decreased when you consume alcohol. What they do know is that drinking heavily and misusing alcohol can bring about irregular menstrual periods. They also know that women who are heavy drinkers have greater difficulty conceiving a child. The risk of miscarriage during the first three months in the development of a fetus is very great for those women who continue to consume alcohol.
Concern for Fathers-to-be
Men would be well advised to look at their alcoholic habits when trying to have a baby. It is best for a man to avoid heavy drinking as alcohol kills sperm and can lead to a lower sperm count. Research has shown that heavy drinking can cause a man to be less fertile and can even lead to impotence on a temporary basis. To put it another way, you reduce your chances of becoming a father if you drink excessively. If you very much desire to become a father then ask yourself if it is worth the risk?
Ask yourself if drinking heavily is really worth not being able to become a parent. Then ask yourself if you are willing to put the future of your unborn daughter or son at risk just so you can enjoy an unhealthy habit.
