Over the last 2 decades the use of drugs in Connecticut has increased, with crack cocaine and heroin becoming the two leading drugs causing problems. Once renowned for its minimal drug problem, Connecticut is now a large transit zone for drugs coming from New York to the rest of the northeast. Since drug crimes have increased significantly there are more and more state run inpatient and outpatient drug treatment programs available. There also are more private drug and alcohol rehabs being established to give addicts more choices of where to go. Private rehabs have the tendency to be better than a state run centers because more people go to treatment by choice rather than being required to go as a result of a court sentence. Either place can be effective as long as the person has the desire to stop using.
