Methamphetamine Addiction

Methamphetamines, or Meth, are synthetically created stimulants that affect the central nervous system, producing effects similar to an adrenaline rush. Meth is a very dangerous and extremely addictive drug.

Meth is created in secret, homemade labs appropriately called Meth labs. One of the reasons Meth has become such a problem is that it is relatively easy to manufacture. Meth is concocted from a series of common household ingredients and over-the-counter medications. When this cocktail is mixed together and cooked, it creates a dangerous drug, as well as harmful chemical waste.

Meth produces a high that can be described as a wakeful state in which the user experiences increased physical activity and decreased appetite. Immediately after smoking or injecting Meth, the user will experience a brief rush similar to an adrenaline rush. However, Meth users can also react negatively to the high and experience intense feelings of paranoia, anxiety, confusion, and psychosis leading to violence.

Meth use can cause a variety of harmful effects on a user’s health, including cardiovascular problems such as a rapid heartbeat, inflamed heart lining, irregular pulse, high blood pressure, and damage to blood vessels in the user’s heart and brain. Heavy Meth users also begin to show outward body deterioration, such as loosened teeth, dry, cracking lips, and sallow, sore riddled skin. Users who overdose on Meth experience an excessive rise in body temperature and convulsions which could lead to death.
