Rehabilitation and Recovery Walk Hand in Hand
Drug rehab and alcohol rehab is designed to help you find your way back to who you were before substance abuse entered your life. Rehabilitation is a method by which you recover the capacities you had before the addiction problem set in and/or before sickness or injuries related to the problem first started.
The word rehabilitation derives from the Latin root “rehabilare” which means to “return home to yourself”. A drug and alcohol rehab center is a place where you can find help. This help will allow set you on the road to recovery, and allow you to go back to being the person you once were.
The drug rehab you receive can only lead to recovery if the individual does not relapse and begin using again. The true measure of drug rehab is how successful it is in preventing relapses that transport the individual back to their old patterns of using. It is the goal of drug rehab and alcohol rehab to make it possible for patients to return to their communities and to re-integrate themselves as members who are productive, valuable and in the process of healing.
Many drug rehab programs stress the importance of the “Whole Person Recovery.” In other words, the treatment programs seeks to help the person to recover and the programs recognize that the journey back to being whole again is a long and arduous one that is full of many challenges. A drug and alcohol rehab center offers a variety of methods by which whole person recovery can be addressed and achieved. These methods include individual counseling, as well as family and group counseling, vocational rehab and self-help groups.
The individual who is attending drug rehab is not a passive player but must take an active role in their own recovery process. He must participate in his own healing in order to get back in the driver’s seat of his life. It is the job of the counselor to guide, support and encourage the patient but the real work involved in drug rehab programs must be done by the individual.
