Drugs are illegal in most places in the United States. While some exceptions to this rule exist, these exceptions are medical in nature and do not apply to the majority of the US population. Those who use drugs illegally have developed a street language to describe particular drugs so that they are able to discuss these drugs in public without fear of being overheard by law enforcement officials or others, such as family members. Commonly abused drugs and their street names are listed below. It is important to note that drug ling changes from region to region and year to year. This is not way intended to be a complete list.

Marijuana

Street Names: Pot, Grass, Weed, Herb, Smoke, Blunt, Sticky Icky
Effects on the Mind: euphoria, relaxation, impaired motor skills, memory loss, anxiety, and paranoia.
Effects on the Body: High blood pressure, increased pulse rate, increased appetite, dry mouth, dizziness, nausea, low sperm count, irregular menstrual cycles

Amphetamines

Street Names: Glass, Go, Crank, Crystal, Ice, Baggers, Amp, Dexies, Meth, Speed, MDMA, Black Beauties, Uppers
Effects on the Brain: Low doses make users alert, euphoric, and energetic as well as irritabile, restless, and anxious. High doses may cause temporary psychosis and increased aggression
Effects on the Body: May cause heart attack, stroke, or kidney failure

Cocaine

Street Names: Blow, Booger Sugar, Nose Candy, Yay-O, Kitty, Rocks, Snow, Yay, Coke
Effects on the Mind: low doses cause increased energy, alertness, euphoria, and insomnia. Higher doses may cause paranoia, aggressiveness, and psychosis.
Effects on the Body: High blood pressure, rapid pulse rate, seizures, heart attacks, stroke, and death

LSD

Street Names: Acid, Alice, Microdots, Window Pane, Blotters, Paper, Tabs, Sugar Cubes, Sid, Uncle Sid
Effects on the Mind: Hallucinations, distorted sense of time, paranoia, anxiety, and agitation
Effects on the Body: Changes in body temperature, pulse rate and blood pressure, sweats, chills, nausea and headache

Opiates

Street Names: Codeine, Vicodin, Powdered D, Heroin, Morphine, Percocet, Percodan, Hillbilly Heroin
Effects on the Mind: Drowsiness and euphoria
Effects on the Body: Decreased respiration, impaired motor skills, nausea and pain relief

Barbiturates

Street Names: Downers, Phenobarbital, Reds, Red devils, Seconal, Yellowjackets, Barbs
Effects on the Mind: Low doses make users feel euphoric and uninhibited. High doses may lead to memory loss, impairment in judgment, paranoia and suicidal thoughts
Effects on the Body: Sleepiness, slurred speech, decreased respiration, and death.

Benzodiazepines

Street Names: Rohypnol, Roofies, Rohies, Moggies, Temazies, Jellies, Eggs, Vallies, Blues, Valium, Ruffies, R-2, Tranks
Effects on the Mind: Know as the “date rape drug”, benzodiazepines produce aggression, high energy, and decreased inhibition in its users
Effects on the Body: Drowsiness, memory loss, unconsciousness, poor motor control, headache, and dizziness

PCP

Street Names: Angel Dust, Killer Weed, Supergrass, Pea-C-Pill, KJ, Hog
Effects on the Mind: delusions, hallucinations, increased strength, aggression, temporary psychosis
Effects on the Body: muscle rigidity, convulsions and coma

Conclusion

As a final note, you may have noticed that while some of the psychological effects of these drugs may seem pleasant to the user, with an increased dose or increased use these psychological effects can quickly turn unpleasant.
